"It’s essential to have a cast that understands how to keep the darkest moments supremely light...The actors negotiate Orton’s sudden shifts of power & emphasis with sure-footed speed. It’s better than tennis, if a bit more violent..."—Boston Globe

"Amorality is a well-worn slipper in Entertaining Mr. Sloane... and the Publick Theatre slips into it like Cinderella reunited with her glimmering glass shoe...Director Eric C. Engel, fielding an adept all-British cast, gets the mix of polite desperation and polymorphous perversion just right..."—The Phoenix

"Director Eric Engel is supported by a cast of four British-born actors who are spot-on in timing a line for laughs and equally adroit in plumbing the depths of the lonely souls they portray..." —The Patriot-Ledger

"Engel has an all-British cast to work with, and they carry the play off with flying colors, their timing and tone perfectly calibrated to Orton's biting wit and the venality that he assigns to the characters..."—EDGE Boston

Seduction and intrigue abound in this sexy dark comedy about a handsome con man who ensnares an isolated family, but soon learns his charms are no match against the primal forces of despair and loneliness unleashed by his arrival.

The charming, enigmatic Mr. Sloane arrives to rent a room from Kath, a lonely, delusional landlady, in the junkyard house she shares with her declining father, Kemp. A handsome opportunist, Sloane quickly ingratiates himself, entering into seductions offered by both Kath, and her estranged brother Ed, who soon employs Sloane as his driver.

Sloane’s past misdeeds and dueling affections within the family soon collide, leading to a desperate act that proves the limit of his charms, and reveals the ruthless cunning Sloane’s victims will engage in to preserve their unique arrangement.
